THE RAINBOW COLLEGE

Rainbow Wizards are the wizards with the broadest magical abilities, they believe in a knowledge that must be complete and total, and usually look down at Colour Wizards as mere amateurs. High Mages may ever only be High elves, for the intelligence and affinity to magic of this race finds no comparison among the other races of the Warhammer world, and a very high skill indeed is required to master a college of such variety and power. Rainbow Wizards are maybe not as reliable as the incredibly specialized Colour Wizards, but gain the benefit of having a much broader range of spells. In fact Rainbow Wizards have access to the spells of all eight colleges of colour, and are not at all forced to specialize in one College alone. Rainbow Wizards wear multicoloured robes and their rune is the Qhaysh, an ancient symbol that possesses great meaning to high elves, and it stands for an abstract and complex concept we might call, with a bit of banality, the "Everythingness".

Special Rules

Nobody but High elf Wizards may be part of the Rainbow college (no Warrior-mages!). These heroes may learn up to 12 spells chosen freely from the spells of the 8 colleges of colour (not Dark Magic) and start the game with 4 spells, that must be chosen from at least 2 different colleges and must be among the starting ones of Wizards of that college (i.e. the top 4 ones). The defect of Rainbow Wizards is that the fact they are not specialized also means they have a harder time learning and casting spells, so they have to pay an extra 50 gc to learn spells (this already includes the rules for Magic Affinity that apply to High elves) and have to pass an Intelligence test in order to cast spells (two tests must be passed if the spell normally requires one) in a similar way to Warrior-mages.

Rainbow Wizard do not use the same components as Colour Wizards. In fact they only use 8 components, used to cast spells from a certain college, and cost 30gc to purchase (these may also be purchased and used by other wizards, see Wizard's Guild, but note that Rainbow Wizards do NOT have a choice but to use such components). These are the following:

Light college Pearl Token

Gold college Gold Token

Jade college Jade Token
Celestial college Saffire Token
Grey college Granite Token
Amethyst college Amethyst Token
Bright college Ruby Token
Amber college Amber Token

To cast any Light spell a Pearl Token is needed, and so on. If two components are required two of the same ingredient are used. These components spare Rainbow Wizards the hassle of keeping track of thousands of ingredients, as each college usually uses 4 different types of components, but are a bit more expensive. Using these components is NOT a choice.

Note for all those who have never heard of the Rainbow College before: I have not created this idea myself, for it was supposed to be included in the Realms of Sorcery expansion or WFRP and was mentioned in the Realms of Chaos (the Lost and the Damned) book. Since nothing more than vague hints about this college were to be found I felt free to create rules for it as I wished.
